THE TRIMARAN....what is a trimaran?

The trimaran is just a regular sailingboat but with three hulls instead of one. In other words it’s just a catamaran but with one more hull (not to spare any expense we made three on it). I say: “we made”, because “Muffolo”, the boat’s name, is a whole SELFMADE composite (epoxy resin and PVC) trimaran!!

The construction idea was founded by my father, who, wanted a faster and more manoeuvrable boat than a simple monohull, so he decided to embark on this adventure.
He decided to build a model based on a picture found in a book purchased from a local book shop.

THE PROJECT Satisfied with the beautiful design of the model, my father decided to purchase the full plans from the designer, Kurt Hughes from Seattle, America. After selling his part-ownership of a single-hull boat, he was left with two barells of epoxy resin and a fiberglass roll. Using these materials and his own skills, he built the boat from scratch. In addition, he built a shed used for the boat construction. Thus, in 1995, the boat construction began, which starts with the assembly of the wooden molds necessary to give life to the side hulls. Unfortunately, after the first resined, allergy problems comes out, constraining my father to long and forced periods of break away from the shed. The project was a long and troubled journey entailing numerous setbacks. Though after 3 long and arduous years, Muffolo was finally ready to sail.

Muffolo was launched on the 10th of September, 1998. The inauguration ceremony involved a procession of cars preceding Muffolo as the vessel was towed through the town to the Mediterranean sea. Muffolo was christened with a bottle of wine later that day. Since then Mufollo has brought enjoyment and passion to many as well as offering unique contact with the sea.
